Company
Hired is a two-sided marketplace connecting companies with tech talent. I worked on the candidate team, responsible for increasing the quality and quantity of candidates on the platform and improving their user experience.
Problem
- About 23% of candidates on the resume-first path abandoned on the preview page. Hotjar recordings showed confusion at this step — a large set of editable fields with a non-intuitive UI for finding them.
- The product had several slightly different versions of preview and profile (resume-first, mobile web, manual input, reactivation, etc.), which made it hard to chase down edge cases and even harder to optimize. We needed to unify the experience instead of adding more variants.
Solution
After a resume is uploaded, take the candidate through a bite-sized, step-by-step profile builder pre-filled from the resume — landing on a single standardized profile/preview page at the end.
The result
Strong impact across the board: +22% quality candidates, +87% candidates with at least one interview request, and −2 min onboarding time. The unified flow also produced an overall +40% new-user conversion lift.
